Gauge is not necessary. I used a 4.5mm hook and worsted weight yarn, mine is about 5.5 inches tall. And yarn and hook will work.

Your size will be based on yarn and hook you choose. I used a 4.5mm hook and Chenille yarn, mine is about 6 inches tall.
