Crochet: Cowl
Although the linky thing shows the yarn to only have 183 yards per skein, it really has 870. It takes only one skein for a 54” by 18” scarf (blocked). For a longer scarf, you would need to purchase an additional skein.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Three repeats of the filet chart produces a stole that is 100” long. For a shorter stole, use only two repeats, and for a longer stole, use four repeats. The depth of the stole is 21”. Can easily be used as a crossover. Because of the type of yarn suggested (alpaca/silk blend), it has wonderful drape, and surprising warmth.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
The s/m takes 250 to 300 yds of fingering wt yarn. the l/xl takes 275 yds of sport wt. Pattern was tested in Free Pattern Testers group.
Crochet: Messenger Bag
This crossover bag uses a tapestry crochet design that is Celtic in origin. It is also reminiscent of tarot cards of the Renaissance - featuring the “spades”. strap can be made in any size. The design of the strap is a spiral - taking advantage of the ‘twist’ that is so common in tapestry crochet.
Crochet: Tube Sock
This pattern gives you instructions for measuring your foot so you can make socks for any size foot. It also has instructions for making these tube socks with sock yarn. The worsted weight yarn socks are thick and bulky. But the sock weight socks can be used with just about any type of shoe that needs a sock.
Crochet: Poncho
This cover-up, or poncho, will brighten up any summery outfit. It uses 3 balls of Omega Rustica thread, #10 (available at Hobby Lobby), and a steel hook size 7. It uses a filet crochet chart which shows ¼ of the design. To get the full design, work half the row using the chart, then repeat the chart in mirror image for the second half of the ro...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
The yardage stated on the sleeve is about 245 yds per skein. It used 7 skeins of “Fall” and 2 skeins of “Coffee”. The result is a shawl like the pictures. It can also be done in any #4 yarn. I’m going to try Lion’s “Amazing” next.
Crochet: Baby Blanket
I sometimes get to substitute kindergarten classes. One day at nap time, a little boy went to his cubby and carefully took out a hand-made blanket. He reverently carried it to his napping place. I asked him if his grandma made the blanket for him. He solemnly nodded, then he curled up in his napping place, wrapped himself in this blanket of lov...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern can be a delicate shawl, or you can add buttons to the edges and turn it into a shrug. Finished measurements are approximatel 20” by 70”. It uses 3 balls of Aunt Lydia’s Bamboo Crochet Thread and U.S. steel crochet hook size 6, and 16 1/4 inch buttons.
Crochet: Scarf
This is a mesh scarf with flowers crocheted into the mesh as it is worked. One size fits all. Requires two skeins of knitpicks Shadow Tonal. I used Queen Anne. Hook needed is a 1.75mm or U.S. size 6.
Crochet: Stocking
This was originally found in Weldon’s Practical Crochet, but I modernized it and corrected errors.
Crochet: Bib
This pattern has been tested in the Free Pattern Testers group here on Ravelry (Jan 16, 2014), and I have included corrections, as well as adding sizes. The newborn size uses #30 thread and measures 6 inches at widest point, 4 inches from neck opening to bottom of bib. The infant size uses #20 thread and measures 7 ½ inches at widest point, 5 i...
Crochet: Mid-calf Socks
These teeny tiny socks are for teeny tiny feet. When crocheted with bamboo thread, they are oh-so-soft! It takes very little thread/yarn to make them, so it’s a good way to use up those pesky small amounts in your stash. Uses steel crochet hook U.S. size 6
Crochet: Booties
This booties pattern will keep your baby’s toes and legs warm and toasty. They can be worked in any color combination, or all in one color. Using the yarn in the picture (sport wt), they will fit larger babies. For the tiny babies, just use a smaller yarn. I suggest Aunt Lydia’s Bamboo Crochet Thread, size 10 (300 yds). The sport wt version use...
Crochet: Coat / Jacket
This little jacket is not only cute, but very warm as it is worked in single crochet.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This uses a double strand of either crochet cotton, thin sock yarn, or a strand of both. I used a strand of both and really like the effect. It also uses a steel crochet hook size U.S. 6.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This uses a steel crochet hook U.S. size 7. the gauge is one motif = appx 6 1/2 inches.
Crochet: Bonnet
This is a pattern that I’ve radically altered to be a helmet liner. It is thin, light weight, yet warm and covers the ears.
Crochet: Scarf
Weldon’s Practical Crochet calls this the “Bolsover” pattern. I don’t know why, it doesn’t look anything like a castle. It’s a pattern of simple tufts – making it warmer than the average scarf.
Crochet: Scarf
I found this stitch as part of a hooded shawl pattern in Weldon’s Practical Crochet. I thought it would make an interesting and very warm scarf! The border is my own design. It can be made for children, women, or men. I would suggest a 40”- 50” scarf for children, and a 60” scarf for adults.
Crochet: Tote
This is a nice way to carry your lunch to work or school. Show off your craftiness while insulating your lunch the old fashioned way – with yarn!
Crochet: Clutch
This clutch bag has a unique celtic design on one side that really catches the eye. It measures appx 10” by 12” unfolded, and appx 6” by 10” folded. It is worked entirely in tapestry crochet and has a 7” zipper inside the fold
Crochet: Money Purse
Materials: The yarn I used is Sonata by Elann (50 gm skeins, 115 yds per skein). You need two skeins of color A and one of color B. It’s 100% cotton. You need a hook U.S. size E, and a 7” zipper that goes with the color of the yarn.
Crochet: Market bag (slouchy)
It’s important to work the single crochet stitches firmly, and over a strand of yarn. The pattern has graphs for all the designs. There are designs in the round on the bottom of the bag, and most of those are not graphed. They are written out. It works up into a thick, sturdy bag. I lined mine.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
This uses a steel U.S. size 6 hook, which is 1.80 mm. This is not listed on Ravelry’s pull-down menu, so I’m mentioning it now.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This was inspired by a cap in Weldon’s Practical Crochet. It uses a unique “fluting” for the crown. I’ll post pictures.
Crochet: Scarf
This was originally a shawl pattern in Weldon’s Practical Crochet (ca 1890’s). But I like it as a scarf. The main part is worked in rows, and the border is worked in rounds. The scarf I did is 60” long, but you can make it longer or shorter.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern uses a steel crochet hook size 3 U.S. This shawl is a good project for anyone wanting to learn filet crochet. It has a celtic circle in the back, and a Victorian shawl border. The main part of the shawl is worked back and forth in rows, but the border is worked in rounds. The shape of the shawl is a half of a hexagon, or three tria...
