Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
A wavy patterns formed by short rows is the eyecatcher of these mitts. With the fiery color, that makes the name - Feuerwellen is German for waves of fire.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Eighty hearts to give you an extra special big hug — or someone who needs some extra love in their life. This shawl had great drape due to slip stitch crochet and it stays nicely on the shoulders as it forms more than a half circle.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
The same color will look different on different fibers - merino is more saturated, mohair more delicate, for example. For this wrap, I combined two very different yarns in the same colorway. You’ll even work them with different hook sizes, but still, once you get into it, it is a quick crochet, thus the name, Rennstrecke (German for running tra...
Crochet: Cowl
Do you know those souvenir hanks of colorful handdyed yarn that you just have to buy --- and then, sometimes, it is hard to find a good project to showcase the beauty of the yarn. I designed this cowl to show off handdyed yarn. And of course, to get you to make something practical and beautiful to wear. This is an instance of assigned pooling -...
Crochet: Cowl
This cowl is especially suited to the first colder days. The plant fiber is nice and soft without being overly warm like wool. The cowl caresses the neck but it is not tight. The slanted ribs give it an interesting pattern and display the hand-dyed yarn charmingly.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
A walk in the wood (German: Waldspaziergang) early in the morning can be magical. The sun has not risen fully, tree trunks rise up straight, interspersed with a play of light and shadow — I tried to capture some of this in my wrap. Straight ribs in Balance alternate with playful lace.
Crochet: Cowl
Sometimes, all you need is to have your neck warmed. Warmer Hals (German for warm neck) is fast and easy to crochet and easy to adapt to other sizes and yarns. I’ve worked my cowl with DK, so it was quick to make and is nicely warm.
Crochet: Cowl
This cowl looks intricate with its lace pattern — and yet it is easy to crochet. The perfect project for that one special skein you bought on your holidays. My skein is from Wollhäschen, bought on a craft meet-up in southern Germany.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
Sometimes, it is the simple things that make us happy — one stitch, two colors, a quick project.
Crochet: Cowl
Chocolates and flowers are classic gifts for Mother’s Day. Much better is Wollmeise’s Praliné-Set: yummy yarn in flowery colors. This cowl uses all colors from the Praliné-Set without requiring an extra skein of a main color. The slip stitch pattern looks intricate but is easy to work once you got the rhythm. Each color is worked in one long ro...
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
The idea for these fingerless mitts came to be when I saw a photo Gwen had taken of her WIP of another pair of my fingerless mitts, with the top part turned over. This created such intriguing optics that I wanted to further explore the idea and develop a separate
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts were designed for a mystery crochet-a-long. In January 2023, each Sunday was Mystery Sunday, with a new part of the pattern. My first plan for the mitts was simpler but while I worked it, things changed almost on their own — different stitches, two kind of thumbs, more and more details. That’s why I called them “Morph”.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
Helga Mitts are worked without any bells and whistles, but with perfect details, like short rows and an invisible seam. The pattern is easy to adjust to your needs — longer, shorter, wider, tighter, different yarns… you name it. You don’t even have to make a gauge swatch to get started.
Crochet: Mid-calf Socks
Socks crocheted with slip stitches are smooth and supple, so different from your usual crochet socks. This is my favorite sock construction, which takes the special give of slip stitches into account. They are worked in long rows, starting at the middle of the sole, and are closed along the instep.
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
Fall is right around the corner, and this hat is waiting for you! Jean Luc hat is worked entirely in slip stitches, and has been designed to match its companion fingerless mitts.

Crochet: Beret, Tam
A two-color wave pattern decorates this tam-style hat. The crown is worked in rows, with six open loops, switching between colors to accommodate the waves.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
Two different kinds of waves make these mitts unique: At the back of the hand, the line between the two colors moves like a wave. At the other side, one long wave is formed with overlapping short rows.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
The fingerless mitts are worked flat sideways in turned rows, featuring a horizontal cable on the back of the hand and a construction with short-row shaping and crocheted seam for the thumb. The initially flat piece is seamed into a tube shape afterwards, using the invisible seam technique.
Crochet: Cowl
The cowl is worked sideways flat in turned rows, featuring four horizontal cables and short row shaping. With some of the shaping located between the cables in the front and back, and three short-row triangles each at the sides, the finished cowl stays safely put on the shoulders. The flat crocheted piece is seamed into a cowl shape afterwards,...

Vielseitig (the German word for “Versatile”) is a stole, a scarf, an instant rain cover, a baby blanket… with this shawl, you are prepared for anything! It doesn’t even require blocking, and can just be squished into your bag to be taken along on short notice. With its simple, but intricate ribbing pattern, it is truly eye-catching! The yarn go...
Crochet: Blanket - Other
Animal loveys or security blankets are doubly functional, as a comforting blanket and plaything. This cat works up quickly and, owing to the slip stitch fabric, has an interesting texture, is soft and pliable. The bottom edge features a crocheted-on cord, easy to grasp even for tiny fingers.
Crochet: Cowl
Crocheted in a luxurious silk yarn, which drapes well and feels very pleasant worn next to the skin, this cowl is truly a special treat! Its smart stripe pattern in three different colors, thanks to very short rows, can be worked with a regular crochet hook - no special tools required! While the unusual construction might seem complicated at fi...

Nowadays, logical formulae are written like text with special signs. But logic can be expressed graphically, too. Charles Sanders Pierce developed a graphic notation for first order logic. Assertion of a symbol is done by writing it down, negation by circling it.
Crochet: Throw
Fall is approaching, time for a cozy lapghan! Its graphic pattern can either be just enjoyed for its nice looks, or with appreciation of the math behind it: The numbers of stripes in each pattern rectangle represent all factors of 24. Teiler is the German word for factor.
Crochet: Toy Plant, Decorative - Other
Sometimes, you just need the luxury version of a crocheted pumpkin! Here it is, created in slip-stitch crochet, featuring my horizontal cables which additionally incorporate short-row shaping.

Venn Diagrams are a neat way to visualize sets and intersections. They originated with Leonhard Euler and were popularized in the 1880’s by John Venn. Applied to fingerless mitts, this yields math to snuggle up in!

This shawl is designed to show off the subtle color changes of A Hundred Ravens’ fade set.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap

It has an interesting texture with a cable pattern that gradually expands over the whole length of the wrap. It is worked with slip stitches, featuring my technique of horizontal cables.
Crochet: Animal Toy
Nowadays, ammonites are just know by their fossils — and the Nautilus has a similar shell. They used to be colorful and happy, roaming the Sea. With this pattern, you can make your own colorful and happy ammonite!
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
Vielfarb (many colors) came to be because I had an Advent Calender by Colourful Creativity and wanted to use all the mini hanks. Handdyed yarn with lots of color changes looks best with short rows, so I chose an entrelac pattern. By making changing the size of the entrelac fields in my version, you can also see how the color changes develop wit...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
A braid made out of braid is the base of this hat. It is worked out of pure silk and thus it is light and comfortable to wear.

Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
Sometimes, you just need that bit of extra warmth on your hands, not on your arm. Thus, these mitts cover the wrists only. The decorative Tunisian cables are worked with Tunisian short row cords and cables, a technique I invented. The rest of the mitts is

Spiders weave the most intricate nets. They look most beautiful in the early morning, when they are sprinkled with dewdrops. Spiderwebs are made with two different threads. One is for the spider to move along in the net, the other kind of thread is sticky to catch insects. This cowl picks up on this duality, using two kind of yarn, Zitron High ...

Möbius strips are both simple and surprising. They form a continuous loop with just one side (i.e. if you start at some point and run on long enough, you end up on the same point, but on the other side of the strip). You can make them from paper but their beauty shows best when made from yarn. I like to make Möbius potholders. They make the per...
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These fingerless gloves feature horizontal cables (a technique I invented) in the form of stacked hearts. At the same time, the cables remind me of seamen’s knots and the North Sea is for me a place of holidays and happy memories. Therefore, when my friend Waltraud suggested “Nordseeliebe” (North Sea Love) as a name for these mitts, it fit perf...

I love big shawls, those that you can wrap around you, use as a blanket or a cardigan. But sometimes, I just need a little something around my neck and so I made a Mini. It is made from wonderfully soft Traumseide, perfect to wear close against your skin. And if you like, you can work the pattern larger until you have a big snuggly wrap…
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts are crocheted using two different types of slip stitch ribbing. This makes them enormously elastic and the two rib patterns together create the visual detail. A gradient yarn such as Zitron Seidenstrasse highlights the variation in the stitch pattern.

Fred, the monster, is a nice but chaotic little guy. Given some wire and tape he will tinker with all sorts of crazy things. A failed experiment with electricity some time ago has left his hair shocked into standing straight up at all times. In his spare time Fred likes to bake and decorate his cakes with chocolate.

Gisela is a cuddlebug; she is so cute and loves belly rubs. She loves to fall asleep in the arms of her favourite people, day or night. If there’s no-one around to give her attention, she will find a sunbeam and doze in its warmth. Then, she will give herself a good grooming to get ready for the next round of cuddles.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
I wrote this pattern for a mystery crochet along with the fingerless glove fanatics on Ravelry, in July 2016. To be published in several chunks, the pattern had to be modular, and I decided to use the modules to explore different textures. As the original pair is worked in bright orange and they fit snuggly like a second skin, I called them Ora...

Guido the Zen frog is very relaxed. He likes to sit in the sun all day long, just looking at the clouds. If an insect happens to fly past him, he catches it with his tongue so quickly that it’s hard to be sure that he even moved. And if there are no insects about, why move at all?
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is wonderfully snuggly and great to wrap up in. It begins narrow and becomes broader as an asymmetric triangle with the top cut off.

I created this braid while on a trip to Berlin. While travelling there I was wondering how I could crochet a French braid. In Berlin I tried it out — and when I came across this turquoise yarn with bright specks at a trade fair, it all fell into place.

This owl is cute and quick. Make one in every color! You can easily adjust it to different sizes, too. The owl is worked with sc in the round. You learn how to work around a chain and how to do the magic ring.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
I created this shawl because I had to make a shawl from 100 g of silk for a swap and I like working shawls in a semi-circle. Since I did not know how many rows I would get, I used many short pattern repeats in an increasing number of repetitions per row.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
Eight years ago I crocheted some wristwarmers for my friend Petra and then forgot all about it (the wristwarmers, not my friend). When we met recently she was wearing them and I decided that now would be a good time to write the pattern. The originals were in back loop only single crochet but I prefer this slip stitch version.
Crochet: Beret, Tam
Slip stiches in continuous rounds result in a spiral being formed. In this pattern the spiral is enhanced by the addition of new ridges to each section.

The mitts are crocheted in back loop only slip stitches, which makes them very stretchy and flexible. They are long and have a thumb piece, ideal for windy weather.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts were created at the Regensburger Wool Festival 2015. On Saturday, I found the yarn at the Nature’s Luxury booth and by Sunday afternoon they were completed.
Crochet: Cowl
This snuggly cowl is worked in Zitron Luv & Lee; the fire engine red of the yarn caught my attention and gave the pattern its name of heatwave. The cowl is crocheted in a flat rib which, when combined with the zig zag, gives a textured wave pattern.
Crochet: Cuffs
These mittens are thin and light, yet warm due to the cosy angora yarn. A ridge pattern with symmetrical zigzag ruffles at one side gives visual interest. They are crocheted in slip stitches.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mittens started with a trainride to Berlin: I was sitting for hours and had just one skein of yarn to play with. High time to incorporate Möbius Strips into mittens! They are worked symmetrically, that is, for each hand the Möbius Strip twists in another direction.

This shawl is formed from tapered segments. It can be made using two colors or each strip can be a different color. Each tapered point is decorated with beads which ensures the shawl drapes nicely as it is worn. My sketch for the shawl looked like a hedgehog, hence the name Igel, which is German for Hedgehog. The yarn also fits: Hedgehog yarn f...
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This snuggly shawl is worked in Zitron luv & lee. A ridged ripple pattern gives the shawl a lot of texture. The ripples are shifted such that the shawl is not rectangular but forms a parallelogram. The shawl matches my Heatwave Hat and Mittens.

These gloves are the perfect wintertime accessory, warm and comfortable. Make them in one color, as a stylish understatement piece, or in two colors, for some fun. The gloves are crocheted in slip stitches.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is crocheted entirely in slip stitches. The pattern is based on a wonderful feature of crochet: With each stitch, you are free to take your stitches in a new direction. Out of this feature I developed a technique of crocheting with long rows, resembling Peano curves. For those who are not mathematicians: A Peano curve fills an area b...

This gingerbread man originated over a holiday when I started missing Christmas cookies. It is worked in sc, with the help of foundational stitches to avoid cutting the yarn more than absolutely necessary.
Crochet: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is crocheted entirely in slip stitches. I wanted to make a striped rectangle that is worked from the inside out. As slip stitches done in rounds shift and thus all corners are askew, I developed the two-step construction which is worked in rows, each color separately, with proper corners.
Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mittens feature an unusual cable pattern that decorates the back of the hand.
Crochet: Potholder
These textured potholders are worked entirely in slip stitches. Short rows and modular crochet result in an interesting form.

Crochet: Fingerless Gloves
These mittens are crocheted with slip stitches. Two short row spirals wind around the thumbs, forming an ammonite. I designed the mittens for a friend’s birthday. Renate loves being at the sea and she loves my mittens, so she got a pair with a maritime theme.

These mittens are both simple and nifty, with their cabled thumbhole. They are crocheted in back loop only slip stitches. The cable is worked horizontally - a technique that I invented.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These elegantly cabled mittens are knitted sideways, in rows. They feature horizontal cables that can be used as thumbholes. The pattern is derived from a crochet pattern, my “Himbeerwellen”. I used to think that horzontal cables (which I invented for crochet) were too fiddly to knit --- you’d need way too many cable needles. When I looked at k...

Yarn substitution is possible, but the sea slug is most fun when it glows in the dark and is water-proof. Use polyfill for filling if you substitute with any regular yarn.
Crochet: Skirt
It is more instructions than a pattern with every detail fixed - you have to take your own measurements and make your own calculations (no hard math, though). And you are free to choose what yarn you like, what stitch you like and what hook you like to use.

A knitted version of this is described here: http://www.jemelv.dk/Undersider/baby/babystrik/babysok1.html albeit in Danish - so I just took a look at the construction and made a slip stitch version.
