About the Name
Camelot was the name given to Arthur’s court, the castle where he and Guenevere resided. However, it is not just a physical place found within the stories; it is also very much a symbol for the bright and shining years of Arthur’s rule when the realm was at peace.

The French writer Chretien de Troyes has been given credit as the first to use the name Camelot (in the twelfth century), but it was Sir Thomas Malory whose fifteenth century text, Morte D’Arthur, really cemented the connection between Camelot and Arthur.

No one is sure exactly where Camelot was located, and numerous scholars have tried to pinpoint that location, anywhere from Winchester to locations in Wales and even in Scotland.
