Mosaic & Lace Knits is an introduction to a technique that I have been developing over several years that brings colorwork into lace using slip stitches. Handling only one strand of yarn at a time, no carrying along the row or stranding, allows development of colorwork patterns without any floats running behind your work and obscuring your lace.

Is it a poncho? Is it a cape? Is it a cowl? Whatever you think it is, it is an elegant addition to your wardrobe that will keep your shoulders warm. By placing the cast-on at the bottom, a subtle scalloped hem is created that opens up into interlocking arcs. The pattern is prevented from getting too heavy by the lace elements, which allows the piece to hang beautifully. The decreases in the yoke echo the arcs from the slipped stitch lace, ending with a neckline that is ribbed to lie flat.

If you would like to see this pattern in action watch the pattern tour video on my YouTube channel Watch Barbara Knit.

The original sample was knit in Berroco Artisan and the colors Maritime (burgundy) and Ocean Floor(green gold), unfortunately this yarn has been discontinued.

The gray and yellow version was knit in Anzula It Could Be Worsted in Hippo and Saffron. You will need two skeins of each color to make all of the sizes. For the S/M you will end up with extra yarn.
