Created in homage to the classic Clapotis which was named for standing wave formations, Seiche (“sayshe”) is a word used for a standing wave formation in an enclosed body of water. Seiche’s channels are formed similarly but in the enclosed form of a tube that’s biased in a different manner from the Clapotis that is its inspiration. I hope this small act of magic – dropping the line of a stitch on purpose and seeing the fabric transform – brings you joy along with a wearable, light cowl.

Note on yarn usage: every last yard of the skein of Cottage sock was used; it’s recommended that you have a second skein or use a gradient with bigger yardage.

All the information you need is in the Knitty pattern. I can’t wait to see how you play with Seiche’s dropped stitch fabric, and especially look forward to seeing your fun photos.

My friends Jeyas Balaskanthan and Steve Goodtime were super great sports letting me dress them in knitwear while we worked at event. Jeyas can be found making Uptown Waterloo better and better. Steve Goodtime can be found on your television screens, or if you’re really lucky, at a live street performing pitch near you.
