Sweetly fingerless mittens
This free release celebrates the launch of the Hatstar ebook which I collaborated with Knotions to produce. Find out how to design your own hats and improve your hat knitting, with everything from the right cast on to how to calculate crown decreases for the shape of hat you want. Preview it now from the link above.
Pretty, feminine mitts for ushering in the cooler weather, these mitts match the Sweetly hat.
The beautiful stitch pattern is worked with an interesting but uncomplicated manoeuvre; one to add to the repertoire. No cables needles or special equipment are needed, so this is great travel knitting. And in this gorgeous Eden cottage yarn, it all goes so sweetly
Why not try it in two colours like the beautiful version by tester kke21 ? The pattern gives full directions for this.
Pattern contains
Pattern is fully written out and also has charts for the main cuff and hand pattern, including the increases for the thumb.
Details on how to make changes for an absolutely custom fit (though full standard sizes are provided).
Needles
Size US 6 (4 mm) circular for main pattern
Size US 5 (3 mm) circular for ribbing
Or correct needles to obtain gauge (I used smaller needles than this as I am a looser that average knitter). You can use DPNS if you prefer. Pattern assumes magic loop, but you may substitute your preferred method for small circumference knitting.
Gauge:
25 sts and 31 rows to10cm/4in over main embroidery stitch pattern. Note this is a very stretchy pattern and gauge measurement is taken with the fabric laid flat and relaxed. You can also take gauge over stockinette at 22 sts and 31 rows,
Skills required:
Knitting in the round
decreasing
one special stitch manoeuvre
Once you have completed the thumb increases, the pattern directs you to work in pattern; so you’ll need to have enough skill to work out what line of the pattern you finished on before putting the thumb stitches on hold (it is only an 8 line pattern of which 4 repeat the same pattern offset by a half drop, so most advanced beginners should be able to do this, but you may need a friend to help if you are an absolute beginner)
