3. Overlay Mosaic Crochet

Instructions: freely available at: https://www.juniperandoakes.com/blog/how-to-crochet-overlay-mosaic-patterns
Picture: Connie’s Winter in the Woods Mosaic Crochet
Goal of technique: to create intricate patterns relatively simply by not having to carry other yarn colors behind your work.
How worked: work a single color in each row and fasten off after each row. Designs are created by working in the BLO (back loop only) and then dropping down to pick up the front loop of stitches from lower rows. Thus, the stitches of the current row lay over the stitches from previous rows.
Best worked: as a flat piece
Difficulty: medium

4. Brioche Crochet

Instructions: freely available at: https://www.lillabjorncrochet.com/2021/06/brioche-crochet-masterclass.html
Picture: Sea Garden Mandala
Goal of technique: to create intricate patterns emphasizing curves, leafs, swirls (i.e Brioche knitting) without having to carry other yarn colors behind your work.
How worked: often consists of a ribbing made of front post stitch, chains, increases and decreases. Usually worked with just two colors using one color per round. The rounds can be worked either on the right side, or with alternation of right and wrong sides to prevent stitches from leaning. The yarn colors are carried up at the end of each row. The front and back look completely different.
Best worked: as a flat piece or in the round
Difficulty: medium

5. Lace

Instructions: freely available at:
Picture: Dragon mandala

How worked: use fine yarns, open stitches and chains.
Best worked: as a flat piece or in the round
Difficulty: easy to advanced

7. Bavarian Crochet

Instructions: freely available at:

Goal of technique: to create raised edges with unique color patterns. Bavarian crochet generally refers to the Bavarian crochet stitch and the Catherine’s Wheel stitch - so it’s really some stitches as opposed to a true technique.

Best worked: as a flat piece or in the round
Difficulty: medium
