Adele Hamey
I call my knit design business Thankyouteacher.
I learned to knit when I was in 8th grade in Whittier, California. My friend’s mother, Mrs. Garcia, was from Mexico and did not speak English but was a great teacher. She also did not use knitting patterns! For sweaters she knit top-down with raglan sleeves and showed me how to adjust for different sizes. The crocheting she taught me was for edging on knitted pieces. Under her direction I started making myself sweaters and vests by the time I was in high school. She also taught me using the continental knitting method, which I think is a big advantage. I feel so fortunate for what she shared with me. I like creating my own designs which she obviously did too. For her and all the other teachers I say “Thankyouteacher”!
