Alex Lopez
Alex Lopez is a queer Australian artist with El Salvadorian roots currently living in Vancouver, Canada. Throughout their life they have been exploring and playing with different mediums including music and food as creative avenues. Alex has always lived with mental health disorders, and self-expression through arts and crafts has been a constant tool to manage life. They started drawing at a young age, sang and performed in their teens and had their own macrame business in their early twenties. At 28, Alex moved on to patisserie and later enrolled in arts classes during covid, where they developed special interest in print-making and oil painting. Phatwool is their latest project showcasing crochet crafts.
Alex grew up in Naarm, the traditional and unceded lands of the Kulin Nation, and is currently living in the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), Stz’uminus and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. As a newcomer, Alex is committed to continue to learn about the colonial history of Canada and the endless implications and effects of colonization for Indigenous Peoples, their worldviews and their land.
