Carrie Drake
I am a maker! Aren’t we all? In my case though, I love to use my hands to create something. Richard Tuttle once said, “Can’t we all just make something? Something where there was nothing before.” I find myself wondering how things work that I interact with on a daily basis. This interest stems from a need to be self-sufficient and to explore unknown territory.
Perhaps it was my love for new experiences that pulled me to outdoor exploration. Or maybe it was the other way around. I have no idea. I climb, hike, mountain bike, slackline, run, travel, and play soccer. Name an outdoor activity. If I haven’t tried it, I will be the first in line.
My biggest passion in life is to leave less trace on the world than those that came before me. Often I will make things out of materials lying around my studio from old projects, second hand stores and free-cycle. I want my products to last while simultaneously having little environmental impact when disposed.
Currently, I live in the Blue Mountains of Australia. I was born and raised in the US. My posts may vary from art projects to teaching tools to climbing stories. This is my life.
