Inese Iris Liepina
I paint with yarn, combining 4 to 20 threads of kid mohair, silk, cotton and wool to make unique and ever changing color blends. My designs are simple and sculptural, knit on a bulky 9mm, 3 gauge knitting machine. The edges roll. Shapes twist. Take a look at https://shop.wrapturebyinese.com/
While you are there check out my color library https://shop.wrapturebyinese.com/shop-all-available-knits...
The photos are from my travels and countryside Shangri-La. I added boxes of color so that it would be easier to communicate with clients after realising that not everyone can see all the colors I see in nature. This is my color inspiration.
I studied art at the School of the Art institute of Chicago and spent 16 years in San Francisco as a designer of knitwear, childrenswear and textiles before moving to my parents native Latvia.
Living in the enchanting countryside of rural Latvia I started knitting Latvian symbols into my sweaters and returned to hand knitting. Catherine Salter-Bayar at Urth Yarns noticed. Thank you, Catherine for easing my transition into pattern writing!
So now I am living in Latvia, writing knitting patterns using traditional Latvian knitting techniques and symbols for a yarn company from Istanbul, for knitters from all over the world to knit. I take my time researching and putting together Latvian symbols to put as much ancient energy as possible into my patterns to help you deal with this crazy, crazy world. Its time to reconnect with our roots and heal ourselves so we can heal our planet. Ancient civilizations knew how to live in harmony with the earth, lets learn from them.
