Linda Johnson
I taught myself to knit from a little booklet when I was a sophmore in high school. My first project was a wool, navy blue scarf on size US8 Boye needles. I still have the needles…lost track of the scarf many years ago.
I knit on and off over the years. Scarves, hats, baby blankets. Caught the cross stitch and needlepoint fever but the needles were still in my bag.
The summer of 2001 my fingers itched for my needles and I picked them back up. That September I took a beginners class at The Knitting Corner to learn “how to knit”. I had my way, but felt there should be an easier way to do it. And I was right! Carole Overby showed me how to fix dropped stitches the easy way, that cables weren’t scary and swatching was a good thing.
After 35 years working at a Big Bank, I was offered the opportunity to retire early and I took it. Now my “career” is designing knitting patterns and raising pups for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
I have a good life.
My shawls and scarves are named for my Mother’s brothers and sisters. And of course she has one as well, “Margurite”
