Greetings! Learning to knit at the fresh age of 46 (in 2017), my life was redirected with new purpose! Since I first picked up the needles, I’ve spent every possible minute practicing & enhancing my skills. Admittedly I have to fight to find that time, as I manage a used bookshop and also manage the apartment complex where I live. Additionally, In December, 2020, I was hired by one of my favorite brick & mortar LYS’s in Seattle to work on alternate Sundays. This has been a wonderful opportunity to glimpse another side of the knitting & yarn universe.
When I published my first pattern, the Mankell Mitts, I had never met the owner of internet yarn shop, Fairlight Fibers. But we corresponded via email, and hoped that one day I’d be able to work for her. (It was only after I had ordered yarn from FF, that I discovered from the return address, that we were practically neighbors. ) In spring of 2021, the business grew large enough to move into an office space in Downtown Everett. I cut down on my days at the bookstore, and began to spend time helping to run FF.
My inclination to design developed alongside every new stitch and technique I learned. Sometimes I simply couldn’t find a pattern for something I wanted to make, and so I invented my own. Other times, the appreciation of a newly discovered yarn caused a desire to create something unique.
The more techniques I learn, the more ideas I have for things I’d like to design. As always, the battle is finding time to rework a design and take all the steps necessary to share it…
As for my personal details, I live in Everett, WA. I am fortunate to have the best companions at home-- young Ian Flemish, who is an Instagram superstar in the form of a 10-pound rabbit; 2 much older rabbits (Barney & Piglet); Hastings the albino guinea pig; and Marvin the 20 lb cat.
Some of my earlier incarnations have included being a drummer, a DJ, a cartoonist, an oil painter, and an aspiring airplane mechanic. Now I knit & talk to rabbits.
