Martha Johnson
I live with my husband in a little house on a pond at the end of a long dirt road. In between growing things, cooking, reading, and enjoying the outdoors, I knit.
Growing up in a creative home filled with items handmade with love, it was inevitable that I ended up in a career in the arts.
I find inspiration in the natural world surrounding my home. The water, abundant wildlife, flowers, and even summer tourists provide me with infinite design possibilities. I have developed my own signature style which includes lots of color, fanciful 3D add-ons, and tons of texture.
In this current world of instant gratification and mass-manufacturing, I strive to emphasize the value of handmade and focus on the process itself. I feel the tactile, sensory process of knitting deserves quality materials and I use mainly yarn from independent mills and farms in the U.S.A. Raised, dyed, and spun by people who are as proud and passionate about what they do as I am.
I donate the prototype children’s hats I create during the design process to sick children at several local Children’s Hospitals. I hope that they help to turn a tear into a smile on a little one’s face.
