I’m just beginning to design, and learning slowly as I go along…it’s an interesting process. I have millions of ideas and I’m always experimenting.
I really enjoy patterns that give a clear overview of construction, but leave the details open to interpretation. That’s why I love the highly visual style of Japanese/Korean knitting patterns, and the descriptive style of Elizabeth Zimmermann’s patterns.
My aim is to write simple, one-page patterns that are visual and intuitive, and to design seamless, reversible items that avoid bound edges, have no strict gauge requirements, and use up small amounts of yarn.
I love colourful, geometric, textured, simple, and innovative design, so some of my favourite designers are: Stephen West, Norah Gaughan, Lee Meredith, Mina Perhonen, Daniela Gregis, Maria Carlander, Veera Välimäki, Purl Soho, Jared Flood, Gudrun Sjödén, Joji Locatelli, Hannah Fettig, Lisa Mutch, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, and Elizabeth Zimmermann, of course…and so many more!
Ultimately, I think of designing as knit problem-solving, and creating things I want to see more of in the world.Got an idea and not sure how to execute it? PM me and let’s collaborate!
