I grew up watching my mom knitting. When I was 6, I asked her to teach me how to knit. Concerned that the needles may cause hazard, she grabbed two sticks of safety match, scraped the flammable chemicals off, and casted on 6 stitches.!That was my first project: a little scarf using match sticks as needles.
I taught myself how to crochet later when I was a teenager. These two beautiful crafts have always been part of my life.
