I am a native American and started out weaving basket while I was growing up. Learned to spin and weave on a loom about 20 years ago. I have been dying and spinning my own yarns for quite a while now. i love using natural dyes because you never know which way a color is going to break and usually i love the consequences. I still make and sell my baskets as well as yarn / plying bowls and Russian style spindles and the small wooden bowls to go with them. I also make and sell beginner drop spindles, and a type of support spindle made with a parakeet egg and a pieces of ostrich shell for the spindle whorl. I also sell my handspun and hand dyed fibers and yarns. I started selling about 10 years ago at a local Renaissance Faire and now also go to local craft and fiber festivals or gatherings that aren’t too far from where i live.
