Susan Bowlby
I’m originally from Germany, born and raised there. That’s also where I learned to knit and crochet, in second grade. During my younger years I thought of it as the most boring thing to do. I used to watch my mom knit and make me beautiful sweaters, but I just never had any interest in it. I dabbled with knitting or crochet off and on throughout the years and made the occasional baby jacket here and there. Four years ago we moved to New Mexico and I didn’t know what to do with myself for boredom. I picked up my needles and knitted my daughter an afghan in a week, and then crocheted my son an afghan in another week. Still bored and not fulfilled, I picked up the needles and decided to knit and crochet for the maternity ward and so that’s what I did for months. After that, I couldn’t put the needles down anymore and have been knitting just about every single day since.
I crochet also, but not nearly as much as I knit. Over the last few years I’ve made many many things and someone said to me “you should write some patterns”, which then got the wheels rolling and I started to dabble with design. I’m still not great at designing, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to knitting, so test everything extensively. I plan on doing more patterns as time permits and health permits as I suffer from many health problems, but knitting is one thing that gives me joy and relaxes my mind.
