Taylor Lyons

50 shades of grey woven cables shopper bag and matching cold-shoulder pullover (includes video tutorial).

Shopper bag:
The bag is worked flat in rows to make various rectangle panels before sewing them together:
1) woven panel, 2) inside panel, 3) back panel, and 4) sides with strap. The woven panel is the most difficult bit, but it’s not as scary as it looks and is actually pretty easy when you get the hang of it (VIDEO TUTORIAL INCLUDED FOR WOVEN CABLES). To make the woven design stand out, I used Ella Rae Seasons yarn as it has subtly shifting color changes that makes beautiful gradient transitions. But you can substitute this yarn for a variety of other bulky weight yarn with gradient transitions if you prefer – e.g., Lion Brand Scarfie. The other panels are created with super bulky weight cotton T-shirt yarn to create a strong and sturdy frame for the bag.

Cold-shoulder pullover:
The pullover is worked flat in rows, from top to bottom. The sleeves are crocheted along with the front and back panels to allow a continuous transition of color with the self-striping yarn. I used Ella Rae Seasons yarn as it has subtly shifting color changes that makes beautiful gradient transitions. But you can substitute this yarn for a variety of other bulky weight yarn with gradient transitions if you prefer – e.g., Lion Brand Scarfie.
