Virginia Blocher
Hey!
I’m a Texan now living in Stockholm, Sweden after almost 10 years in Paris, France.
While living in Japan in 2006 I have to thank my local Japanese yarn shop and youtube for teaching me to hand knit my first project, a Japanese pattern for a 1x1 ribbed scarf. Knitting turned out to be a vitally needed creative outlet and I was quickly obsessed!
Then I moved to France and decided to go pro and went back to school and got a knitwear fashion design degree at l’Ecole de la Maille de Paris. I’ve since worked many years on freelance design projects and after almost 10 years in Paris I moved to Sweden to live with my swedish boyfriend.
In Stockholm I have now created my local machine knitting design and prototyping business called Knit Mint, with a local workshop where I will continue designing but also open up to do-it-yourself machine knitting bookings, courses, training, inspirational events etc! More about that here: Knit Mint
I did learn to crochet from my grandmother when I was a child, but I never developed it until I started knitting on my own and needed it for edgings and finishings.
My background is in architecture, so I love the structure and three-dimensionality of knitting. I love patterns that are constructed in ingenious ways and have interesting textures. I’m always learning new techniques and I can never get enough exploring different yarns and swatching them up into interesting fabrics.
