Thursday Tip: Forum Post Formatting
… . I assume I’m not the only one that often types and retypes until I get it right. :)
Preview
The preview button pops up a little window that previews how all the formatting in your post will look. It’s a great way to see how all those * and = and # are translated into pretty formatting.
And the question mark? That’s how you get help if you ever have questions about text formatting in the forums. You’ll be opening the wiki page with info on our text editor. We can …

As you can see, project pages can contain a lot of great information about your wonderful crafty endeavors. You will never be required to add projects to Ravelry – but it sure can be fun to record and show off your hard work by doing so!
I’ll be doing more introductory project page posts for my next three Thursday Tips, so if you’ve ever wondered how to add a project to your notebook, add photos to your project pages, or what kind of notes to enter in your project notes field, stay tuned!

Thursday Tip: How do I get that pattern?
… how to find the patterns in our database, so I’ve updated this post with new pictures and information in November of 2015 to hopefully help folks who have joined us since it was initially posted in February of 2012!
Ravelry has an extensive, user-maintained database that includes patterns from a variety of sources. A lot of people expect that the database will show only patterns available on Ravelry or online, but that’s not the case. The database is designed to allow people to be able to …

Tip: How to Get Hearts ❤️
… heart on it. I know I’m not the only one who finds those hearts exciting, so today’s post is about how to acquire them.
Basics
One of the most common ways for a Raveler to see your project is to see it when researching a pattern, on a project gallery page like this. These basic steps ensure your project will be seen on those pages. (Here’s a great post on adding a project, if you want to review that.)
Link your project to the pattern. When you enter a project, if you used a pattern make sure …

Ravelry Resolutions
… picture!
Your profile picture on Ravelry helps other Ravelers recognize you across the site. It doesn’t have to be an actual picture of you! Profile pictures are definitely not required, but it is nice to have a picture on your profile page or attached to your projects and forum posts, sharing a bit of your personality on your profile and around the site. If you’d like some instructions about how to add a pic: we have tutorials on uploading a Ravatar (that’s Ravelry slang for Ravelry Avatar …

Tip: 3 Things to do on Ravelry in the New Year
… Ravelry 700 times…). If you prefer, you can always use a picture of something you love. (See above re: 700 Benedict Cumberbatches…) It’s definitely not required, but it can be nice to have a picture on your profile page or attached to your projects and forum posts. In this post I’ll share how to add a project from the projects section of your Notebook. First, click on projects section and then select the add button.

Tip: Forum Activity Tab
… , click the little “x” next to anything you would like to unhide (no offense to any groups listed there, I just hid a few as an example).
The forum activity tab is a great way to quickly catch up with what is going on in the forums that you follow. This also looks great on tablets and mobile devices. If you aren’t currently participating in the forums, I encourage you to find some groups that might interest you. This blog post has some great tips on how to locate your new favorite group.

Particularly in large groups with an established culture, it is usually a good idea to “lurk” — meaning, read the forums regularly without posting — in a group for a time before jumping in (as well as reading the group’s description and rules). Of course, if you have something to offer, don’t be afraid to post; this is how you can make connections with other Ravelers who may even eventually become your real-life friends!
