This is a short coat knitted diagonally: Each part is started at one of the bottom edges, and the rectangular pieces are formed by increases / decreases at the beginning / end of the rows. With a variegated yarn this will end up with diagonal stripes.

With regards to the yarn the magazine states: The recommended yarn “Grandino Print colorway 97” had to be discontinued because of some problems with yarn production just before publishing this pattern.
