For this first blanket, I chose Blue Sky Fibers Suri Merino and Spud and Chloë Outer – two luxurious fibers that, when knit in a classic stitch, form an elegant reversible fabric. The Broken Rib is a simple architectural stitch. Add the shadows from the stitches, and the waffled texture makes this blanket sing. By knitting in either of these 2 yarns we can also see how the single ply of Suri has a lovely halo, softness, and drape compared to the 2-ply bulky cotton/wool strand of Outer. Both yarns hold a stitch pattern firmly and both would work in any color for any baby.

The Outer blanket is a little bigger because the stitch gauge felt too large for a 30” square; the two extra inches make for a better balance between the center panel and the border which is equal on all 4 sides. Either blanket would make a timeless and cherished gift.

GAUGE:
Suri Merino: 10 1⁄2 sts and 14 rows = 2” in Broken Rib
Outer: 4 3⁄4 sts and 6 rows = 2” in Broken Rib
