A buzz-worthy honeybee-lace pattern is the undisputed star of this feminine spring cardi: It’s featured along the front edges, yoke, center back and sleeves.

Some knitters have been bothered by the fact that the vertical line of purl sts between the honeybee lace motifs don’t line up perfectly at the shoulders. They are off by a few sts. The columns of lace on the fronts are pushed over a little bit by the button band. It’s pretty subtle when assembled because the lace stops before the shoulder shaping so it’s just the 12 x 1 rib pattern on the shoulders.

For those of you who are determined to line up the stitch pattern, here are a few options:

A. You could have a 6-st gap between the two centre panels of lace that run down the back. However, I think that would look more awkward than the subtle vertical stripe not matching up at the shoulder seam.

B. As previously mentioned, the actual lace pattern stops before the shoulder shaping so it’s mostly st st at the shoulders. You could stop the vertical purl line when you stop the lace and work the whole shaping section on both fronts and back shoulders in St st.

C. Make the fronts a few stitches wider so they are half the sts of the back. When buttoned, the front will be half the width of the button band wider than the back. Remember to pick up more stitches for the neck edging if you choose this option.
