The pattern has basic instructions on how many to chain and how to do the fringe at the end. Otherwise it refers you to the stitch chart. There is an error in the number of stitches to chain at the beginning; but you can use either 94 or 112 chains and be successful in following the chart.

8 balls of Katia’s Versailles yarn is specified. For gauge, one follows the chart and 4 motifs from the 2nd row and the first 8 rows = 4” x 4”.

Hook size D3 is specified in the pattern as 3.0mm, but size D may be a little larger, depending on manufacturer.

American English crochet stitch names appear to be used, but it really doesn’t matter since one works from the chart.
