TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS PATTERN
Links to videos for selected techniques are included. I look for videos as close as possible to the instructions I have written. Sometimes they may be slightly different but still very helpful.

  • Bind-off
  • Increase
  • Decrease
  • 1 x 1 ribbing
  • Cable 8 back (C8B)
  • Working neckline on circular needle

Regardless of actual body measurements, everyone prefers a different finished look. It is helpful to use the FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS, in the chart below, which refers to this specific garment only. It can help your choose the look you prefer.

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE

  • Plymouth Yarns Baby Alpaca Worsted
  • 100% baby alpaca
  • 3.5 ounces-(100 grams)
  • 165 yards-(151m) each skein
  • 9(9 -10 - 11) skeins

For your pullover to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZES

  • Size 6-(4 mm) and size 8-(5 mm) needles; or size needles to obtain the correct gauge
  • Size 6-(4 mm) circular needle, 24 inches (61 cm) long for V-neck
  • Size 6-(4 mm) circular needle, 16 inches- (40.5 cm) long for round-neck

NOTIONS

  • Tracking sheet—included with pattern
  • Cable needle
  • Tapestry needle
  • Five size 8-(5 mm) or smaller double pointed needles to use as stitch holders or 5 stitch holders

GAUGE
- 20 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches-(10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size 8-(5 mm) needles

Why is the gauge listed in stockinette? Knitting patterns often list gauge in stockinette stitch because it’s the most common knitting fabric and it’s easier to measure stitches and rows in stockinette than in more complex stitch patterns. It’s also an assumption that if you can match the gauge in stockinette, you’ll be able to match the gauge in the pattern’s specific stitch.
