Adult size calls for a J hook. To make for a newborn, use baby or sportweight yarn and an F or G hook
These can be made for newborns up to XXXL if wanted, it depends on you and how big you want them (different size yarn & Hooks makes all the difference). They are great with matching hats as well.
By not sewing (whip-stitch) up the front you can have a wonderful shawl, whip st up the front creates a poncho with a nice collar. Add fringe to set the accent on the bottom of this shawl/Poncho or scallops. You decide.* - Jean Marie
