1870 Beeton's Border II
This reversible edging is from 1870 Mrs. Beeton’s Guide to Embroidery, Crochet and Knitting, p.176. I added 1 stitch to stabilize the lace edge. The border starts with 6 stitches and has a 16-row-repeat. Except for 1 stitch, 8 of the rows are “k across”. This border is so easy, you might not need the instructions after the first repeat! Mrs. Beeton intended this border for her “Knitted Table Cover” which I renamed “Dahlia Doily” on Ravelry but use it as you wish. Beeton’s Border can be blocked straight or curved. The swatch is 1.5 inches at its widest at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
18 yards of #10 crochet thread will make 10 inches of Beeton’s Border at gauge.
