1875 Petite Purl Stitch
This no-name, no-image pattern from ca. 1875 The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, p.90, has a 3-stitch, 4-row repeat. Except for the 2 selvage stitches, the 2 wrong-side rows are purl across. Because the knit stitch is easier for me, I tried converting all the purl stitches to knit stitches but the result wasn’t as attractive as the purl version.
It takes about 1 hour to knit just over 4 inches of a 29-stitch-wide swatch.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, p2tog, yarn over and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
60 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 29-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
