This pattern is one in “A Victorian Potpourri for Bed & Bath” series, which will include cloths, curtain, soapsaver bag, rug, pillows, and more.

The Slumber Slippers design is modified from an 1888 Victorian crochet pattern. I have adapted it to chunky-weight yarn so that you can make a pair in a jiffy, for a last minute gift or when that cold snap comes unexpectedly early this winter!

Instructions are given to make these cute slippers in any size, by varying the length of the starting chain. You can therefore use any yarn weight, with the appropriate hook--so if you prefer thinner slippers you can use worsted weight or even sock yarn.

I used a 6.5mm hook and chunky weight yarn--approximately 70g main colour and 30g contrast colour for Women’s Medium slippers; 1-3 years size, approximately 50g yarn.

Slippers similar to these have remained popular through the decades, and they are so quick to make and so comfortable that it is easy to see why!

If you prefer to knit, there will soon be similar slippers called “Foot Muffs” available, adapted from another Victorian era pattern.
