I have been wanting give new knitters a way to get started right away with historical knitting. This pattern is written assuming you have never knit before!

This pattern uses a Knitted Towel pattern from the 1892 book “The Art of Knitting” as a base pattern.

Links to tutorials, picture and articles are included for someone who has never knit before to try to give enough instruction so that your first knitting pattern can be a historical one!

Three more variations of knitted towels are provided with detailed instructions. The purpose of these is to teach new concepts, a few at a time. Each towel builds on the last, hopefully giving an incremental progression to learning the base techniques needed to knit more complicated historical patterns.
