1895 Weldon's Diamond Border
I took a chance on another no-image Victorian pattern and I’m glad I did! This reversible pattern from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 7 has a 12-row repeat. It starts with 31 stitches, increasing 1 stitch per row to 37 stitches before decreasing 1 stitch per row to the original 31 stitches. I modified the selvage edge for easier sewing later. This border is best sewn to a straight-edged item.
The diamond border is 4” wide measured from selvage edge to a point when knit to gauge.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, slip, knit, purl, knit 2 together (k2tog), k3tog, slip1-k2tog-PSSO (SK2P), yarn over needle (YO) and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able thread/yarn will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
6 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make 12 rows (about 1 inch) blocked to gauge.
