Inspired by the character Missandei from Game of Thrones and her ability to speak 19 different languages, this pattern contains 19 different texture and lace patterns. It represents Missandei’s lifelong journey from the Isle of Naath to the employ of Daenerys Targaryen and the land of Westeros. Some texture sections are written for shorter or longer lengths than others, but the length of each section is easily adjustable for personal preference. You’ll enjoy watching the change between sections as this wrap takes shape, and you may find your own journey represented in the changing patterns.
Finished Size: Approximately 92” long by 19” wide, blocked. Length is easily adjustable, but width is not, due to the varying stitch multiples in each section and the need to keep them somewhat in line with each other. You will also find that some sections will naturally end up wider or narrower than others. This can be combated to some extent by blocking narrow sections more aggressively, but it’s also part of the charm of this piece. Don’t be afraid if your final piece isn’t uniform in size!
Gauge: 17 sts and 24 rows=4” in Reverse Shadow Rib (Texture 4 in the pattern). While gauge is not crucial for this project, a difference in gauge will affect your yardage requirements, so plan accordingly.
Materials: US size 7 (4.5 mm) needles, flat or circular, Sewing needle for weaving in ends, 2 cable needles or DPNs for working cabled sts, optional stitch markers.
Yarn: Sample shown in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Kingston in colorway Wiltwyck. This is a gorgeous, rustic 100% Targhee wool yarn that feels wonderful in the hand and has some heathered/tweedy flecks to it. If using a different yarn, you will need approximately 1300-1400 yds of DK weight yarn. If using hand-dyed yarn, please make sure to alternate skeins every couple of rows to avoid color pooling or noticeable striping and skein changes.
