1902 Leaf Lace Edging
This sweet little leaf edging published in 1902 by Butterick deserves another look! There are only 8 pattern rows and half of those are “purl across”! With only 25 stitches and 7 of those being simple header stitches, this edging is quick to learn and make!
I changed the decreases to form a more prominent center vein for a leafier look. In the original pattern, the leaf section has a pronounced slant. I developed an optional short-row beginning and ending to compensate.
Just under 5 yards of #10 thread will make 1 inch (about 8 rows) in the stated gauge. A 350 yard ball of Aunt Lydia’s Classic #10 thread will make about 70 inches of this edging.
Yardage needed will vary a lot depending on the length of edging needed.
