you don’t have to place markers at each lace repeat, but it greatly helps to to keep on track.

As all experienced knitters know, you are going to want to slip the first stitch of each row, so where it says k3 at the beginning of a row, it really means, sl 1 k2. and where you’re purling all across the row, slip the first stitch.
you don’t have to, and if you forget, it will all turn out okay, but taking this step makes it SIGNIFICANTLY easier when you are picking up for the icord.

Abbreviations:
k- knit
p- purl
k2tog- k two together
ssk- slip slip knit
sl1k2togpsso- slip one stitch knit two stitches together, and pass the slipped stitch over the two stitches knit together.
yo- yarn over
pm- place marker,

Materials:

Length of ribbon to fit waist,
1 small clasp
size 4 circular needles to accommodate a large number of sts, or size needed to get gauge,
Gauge: 6 sts per inch in stockinette st
