The 2001 shawl was inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, specifically the 2001 Engagement Calendar. Ansel Adams (1902–’84) was an American landscape photographer known for his black-and-white images of the American West. Adams’ work is widely recognized and he remains one of photography’s most-loved artists. I wanted the 2001 shawl to capture Adams’ mastery of black-and-white film and majestic mountain range artworks.
First, the main body of the shawl is worked in your Main Color, then an
applied border is worked in your Contrast Color, then the shawl edge is finished with a striking picot bind-off in your Main Color. Cable panels separate the shawl body into sections. The cable running down the spine creates twin mountains on either side. The cables running along the top edge represent the clouds that seem to nestle up next to the mountains in his photos. The applied border and picot bind off represent the brush, treeline and wildlife that surround the base of the mountains.
I hope you enjoy the 2001 Shawl. Happy making!
