2015 Red Barn Afghan Sampler
Designed for Red Barn Yarn Farm in Saint Joseph, Missouri but any and all are welcome to participate.
This is a 12-month project that will provide the project user an opportunity to learn a variety of techniques and skills each month with a final instruction on seaming and border in December. Each square will be revealed at the beginning of the month starting in January 2015 and will provide instructions for a 6” and 12” square. This is a versatile project that will allow a user to make a true sampler by knitting each month and seaming or pick and choose the squares to make a truly unique blanket.
At the time of entering into Ravelry, the amount of yarn is not known, but are estimating 10-12 skeins of yarn for the entire project if making the 12” size. Some squares will be worked as a solid color and others will allow for color work. It is recommended to use 2-4 colors for the entire blanket to allow for variety and learn how to change colors
Examples of techniques that will be taught through this process (in no particular order):
- Knit & Purl combinations
- Cabling
- Seed Stitch
- Slip Stitch
- Knitting in the Round
- Short Rows
- Colorwork
- Bobbles
- Mitering
- Intarsia

Materials that will be needed during the year (may adjust as squares are added):
