This sock has unique Lithuanian-style heel and toe shaping. The colorwork patterns are popular in Lithuanian as well as in Belarus and other Northern European countries. I adapted the chart used from Belarusian Ornaments in Weaving and Embroidery (Беларускі арнамент: Ткацтва. Вышыка by М. С. Кацар, Minsk, 2009). The diamond motif is seen as the sun or fire. Variations may also represent the union of the sun and the earth, giving birth to life and the harvest.
