2025 Stitch Sampler Afghan
Make yourself a new afghan in 2025!
This project is perfect for a beginner or a knitter with a little experience who wants to advance their skills and try something new, or a seasoned knitter who needs something new to work on.
There will be 12 patterns, one for each month, that will come with videos that will show you how to do the stitch patterns. There will also be bonus videos to show you casting on, binding off, and seaming your squares.
At the beginning of each month (starting January 2025), this Ravelry pattern will be updated with the new pattern for the next square. The new PDF will include all the instructions you need for the square as well as a link to the video tutorial for the next stitch pattern.
Each square is approximately 12” x 12”. The finished afghan will be approximately 36” x 48”. Each squares has garter ridges around the edges so they don’t curl and are easier for putting together.
Square patterns include:
- three knit and purl patterns
- three lace patterns
- three cable patterns
- three colourwork patterns
Materials:
- 15 skeins of worsted weight yarn (100 grams each, approximately 186 yards each) divided into three colours (so five skeins of each colourway), or more if you want.
- 4.5 or 5 mm needles for knitting flat and depending on your gauge. (My original sample was done in Berroco Vintage and I used a 4.5mm. The sample that is being knit now is done in Cascade Anthem and I’m using a 4.5mm.) The gauge in all the patterns is approximately 18 sts in 4 inches without blocking.
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Clip on stitch marker for marking right side of square
- Cable needle (for August and September)
- Stitch marks for hanging on the needle between repeats, etc. if desired
Note:
Save your leftovers!! Whatever remnants are left from skeins as you finish a square, make sure to keep them with the rest of your yarn for the afghan.
Here are the reasons why:
- You need to sew the squares together at the end.
- Extra mini balls are handy for one of the colourwork squares (the December one).
- You could always make a matching pillow to go with the afghan when you’re done.
- You can always add fringe or some kind of a border once the squares are all together.
