This versatile pattern will work with yarns of different fibres and weights. The first sample I made was knit in multi-coloured sock yarn, and the “Paladin” colourway from the FERGUS YARN CO. reminds me of a sunny day at the beach. I didn’t want the yarn and the stitch patterns to fight with each other too much so I designed a shawl with a stocking stitch body and a simple lace border. Following the same pattern, with the same number of stitches and rows, I knit a larger version in a solid-coloured worsted weight yarn. Looking for that “Goldilocks” size somewhere in the middle? Knit your shawl in a DK weight yarn. Search your stash, and you will probably find some yarn that you can use for this design. Or head out to your LYS and look for something new—I’m sure the owners will be happy to help you!
