25 Round Kippah
This is a fast, easy kippah knit in the round using both a 16” circular needle and a 40” circular needle for Magic Loop. It makes a kippah about 5” in diameter. I find it easier to start on the 16” circular needle and then switch to Magic Loop, but you can do the whole kippah using Magic Loop if you prefer. It can be knit in Fingering or DK yarn. Great project to use up small amounts of scrap yarn.
Gauge isn’t inmportant.
Materials:
Yarn of your choice: Fingering or DK, 40-50 yards.
US #2 circular needle in both 16” and 40” lengths
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Abbreviations:
K: Knit
P: Purl
K2 tog: Knit 2 stitches together
* Repeat instructions* to the end of the round
Instructions:
Cast on 96 stitches for Fingering yarn ( or 90 stitches for DK yarn) with the 16” circular needle using your preferred cast on, and carefully join in the round without twisting. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round. You will slip the marker every round. For the Fingering version knit all rounds as written. For the DK version knit rounds 1-4, but then begin your decreases by skipping rounds 5-8 and knitting from Round 9 (K13, K2tog) on.

After Round 11, switch to Magic Loop. It is helpful to have exactly half of the stitches on each needle with the K2tog as the last stitch on each loop.

You should have 6 stitches on your needles: 3 on each needle. Cut your yarn leaving a 6-8” tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread this yarn carefully through the 6 remaining stitches. Once you have secured those 6 stitches, remove your needles and insert the tapestry needle through the center of the kippah to the wrong side. Pull the yarn tight and cinch the center closed. Weave in the ends and block. Enjoy your kippah!
