26 Mix & Match Alphabet Corners
With twenty-six different borders to choose from, you can make matching corners for guest towels, pillow covers, tablecloths, napkins, and even handkerchiefs. Each letter contains written instructions and a chart for the letter and border in the photograph, and two separate charts for the letter alone and the border alone. The exact size of your corner will depend on the size thread and hook that you use, as well as your gauge. You should make a gauge swatch before you start so that you can plan accordingly. These patterns were designed in 1921 by Ida C. Farr, and were edited to make the lace corners all the same size, and the borders and letters are now easily interchangeable.
This is not your usual scanned vintage crochet pattern. To make this pattern great for today’s crocheter I wrote complete instructions, expanded the written instructions so you won’t need to skip around, and made an easy to follow chart. I also changed the written instructions to use modern US crochet terms.
The only stitches you need to know to complete this lace are: chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet.
