The hat is knitted from top down, so you can try it on as you knit it to make sure the head circumference and length are just perfect for your head. After the crown shaping the rest of the hat is just simple 2x2 ribbing.

This hat is designed for everyday use, and despite the small needles and fingering weight yarn it knits up surprisingly fast. This is the perfect project to use the precious hand dyed skeins from your stash, as the simple texture really highlights the colors and texture of the yarn!

Note that you can also wear the hat inside out for a slightly different look!

The size and length of the hat is easily adjustable.

260 m / 280 yards of fingering weight yarn. Pink sample knitted in Kässäkerho Pom Pom Merino Single (100% merino, 366 m / 400 yards per 100g), shown in shade Kurtturuusu. Gray sample knitted in Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles (100% merino 366 m / 400 yards per 100g), shown in shade Salty Tales.

Gauge:
52 sts and 44 rounds = 10 cm over 2x2 ribbing on 2.5 mm / US 2½ needles in the round, after blocking, unstretched.
Note: take the measurement of relaxed fabric, do not try to stretch the ribbing open. (Basically the purl sts are invisible.)
