Any of these caps can be adjusted in size by adding a decrease round, or adding an increase round, or changing your hook size.

The yarn size used also affects the final size. For example, as any experienced crocheter knows, not all size 4 worsted weight yarns are made alike. Some are on the “light” side and others can vary the yarn width all over the place within the same skein.

Designer’s Tip: I often find that while working through a Round, it is helpful to use a sticky note to keep track of where I am in the instructions.

You can also make these caps as long and slouchy as you like by repeating the last Round.

1.Basic Pinwheel Cap
Size L hook
For the first example, I used Loops & Threads “Charisma” in Black (A), and Lion Brand “Color Waves” in “Pebble Beach” (a fuzzy pastel rainbow color) (B).

For the second example, I used Lion Brand “Landscapes” in “Mountain Range” (A), and Lion Brand “Homespun” in “Deco” (B)

2. Pinwheel Messy Bun / Man Bun / Ponytail Cap,
Size K crochet hook
A. Red Heart with Love, Metallic yarn, Black; 1 skein, 200 yd, 4.5 oz.
B. Lion Brand, Landscapes, Apple Orchard; 1 skein, 147 yd, 3.5 oz
OR any size 4 (medium) yarn in two color choices: Uses about 2.8 oz., 118 yds. total.

3. Candy Stripes Pinwheel Holiday Cap
Size J hook
Materials: Red Heart “With Love” one skein each color:
A. Metallic White (4.5 oz, 200 yds.)
B. Boysenberry (6 oz, 315 yds.)
C. Evergreen (7 oz, 370 yds.)
Or any size 4 worsted weight yarn in three color choices: Uses about 3.4 oz., 152 yds. total including pompom.
