31 Royal Street
Background
These socks are inspired by the amazing metalwork adorning the balconies of New Orleans Square at Disneyland Resort in California. Every balcony has a distinct metalwork pattern that invokes the French Quarter in New Orleans. The cable pattern for these socks comes from the metalwork along the balcony over the Blue Bayou restaurant entrance at 31 Royal Street. It is strongly recommended that you knit these socks while watching your favorite Cajun film, enjoying your favorite Cajun or Creole food and/or drink, and/or listening to some of your favorite jazz music.
Final Measurements
Each sock will measure approximately eight inches (8”, 20 cm) circumference if worked at gauge. To make a smaller circumference sock, use a tighter gauge on smaller needles. For a wider sock, use a looser gauge on larger needles. If you need to go larger than a US Size 2 (2.75 mm) needle, you might need to use a heavier weight yarn, which may require the purchase of a second skein.
Materials
US Size 1 (2.25 mm) or size needed to get gauge. Use whichever style of needle (double pointed needles, 9” (23 cm) circular, long circular for magic loop, or two circular needles) you are comfortable with for knitting small circumferences in the round.

This pattern was originally published as part of a fundraiser for the National Hemophilia Foundation. My son has severe hemophilia b and this organization has helped him through some very tough times in the past. Local chapters for NHF provide free educational resources for families and individuals who have all forms of bleeding disorders. They also provide financial support in the form of grants or direct donations so that members in the community can have access to the medications they need in order to control their bleeding disorder.
Since this pattern is now being offered for free, I would ask that if you enjoyed the pattern to please donate to your local NHF chapter on my behalf. Any donation is greatly appreciated by your local bleeding disorders community.
