Pattern Description from Vogue Knitting, Fall 2009:
Nanette Lepore’s three-quarter-sleeve cardi embodies her signature femininity. The back lace flounce is shaped with increases that occur in the main lace pattern, while the sleeves, lapels and bottom border are worked in a fisherman’s rib. The body of the sweater is knit in one piece from the top down in a variety of lace patterns in ‘Rio’ by Tahki Yarns/Tahki.Stacy Charles and ‘Baby Kid Extra’ by Filatura Di Crosa/Tahki.Stacy Charles held together. The lapels, worked from the bottom up, are knit separately and sewn on.
Knitted Measurements:
- Sizes for Small/Medium, Large/X-Large
- Bust (closed) 35 (41)“/89 (104)cm
- Length (back of neck to bottom of peplum) 27 (28)“/68.5 (71)cm
Materials:
- 17 (19) 1¾oz/50g hanks (each approx 87yd/80m) of Tahki yarns/Tahki.Stacy Charles Inc., Rio (alpaca/fine merino wool/silk) in #3 tan (A)
- 6 (7) .88oz/25g balls (each approx 268yd/245m) of Filatura di Crosa/Tahki.Stacy Charles, Inc., Baby Kid Extra (baby kid mohair/polyamide) in #495 rose (B)
- One each sizes 8 and 9 (5 and 5.5mm) circular needle, 24”/60cm long, or size to obtain gauge
- One size 6 (4mm) needle for sleeve bind off only
- Stitch makers and holders
Additional Gauges:
- 20 sts and 20 rows =4”/10cm over k1, p1 rib (unstretched) using smaller circular needle and 1 strand each A & B held tog
- 14 sts and 18 rows = 4”/10cm over Fisherman’s rib, using smaller circular needle and 1 strand each A & B held tog
Notes:
- Work with 1 strand each A and B held tog throughout.
- Circular needles are used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth as with straight needles.
Smallest needle intended for sleeve bind off only.
