About this pattern
This pattern is suitable for improving beginners. Using the same basic pattern, you can make 2 styles of hat and 2 styles of cowl. These are a bobble hat, a double bobble hat, a slouchy cowl and a structured cowl.

The pattern is worked flat in a large rectangle and is folded and sewn up to shape. You will be using the UK half treble stitch (US half double) to compete this project.

Full written and photographic instructions are given for the UK half treble (US half double) stitch, for the various steps of construction and for the seaming up instructions for all 4 styles. The pattern is downloadable as either US or UK terms.

Pattern notes
You will need a scissors, a yarn needle, a pom pom maker and about 1 metre of firm cotton yarn. You will need extra yarn in a contrasting colour for the bobble.

This pattern is designed for Scheepjes Stone Washed XL or River Washed XL yarn. It is quite a heavy aran/worsted yarn, and may be best substituted by a chunky yarn if using another brand. If using an alternate yarn, check its suitability by working up a gauge swatch with the recommended hook and check that the size and texture of the square looks right.

Sizing
Instructions are given for 7 sizes, in increments of 2cm, from a head dimension of 48 cm (Small child/Toddler) through to 61cm (Adult XL)

You will need approximately 105 m (1.5 balls of Scheepjes Stone Washed/Riverwashed XL) for the Child’s small size, moving to 3 balls for the Adult M-XL sizes. Depending on your tension you may need a small amount of a third ball for the the Adult Small (54 cm head) size. You will need ~20g of extra yarn in a contrasting colour for the bobble.

The cowls are sized the same as the heads, though if you like instructions are given on how to make a looser, slouchier cowl. This variation will require more yarn.
