This pair of socks are part of my Fifty Shades Knits project. The fourth project out of 50 specifically.

I designed this project to keep me awake on an 8 hour plane ride from Dallas to Dublin, Ireland. I cannot really sleep on planes at all and I always end up feeling antsy. To me, this is really the perfect time to get some knitting done. And, by some knitting, I mean a lot of knitting.

I was hoping to find some interesting lace pattern to work on these socks but, in the end, the Irish Mesh pattern was the winner. I mean, come on, I’m going to Ireland and there’s an Irish mesh pattern? Duh. The stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of 3 stitches. There is a 2 stitch “seam” of knit stitches down the center back of the sock. The calf will look like it’s knit for a large man when laid flat. I promise, it actually fits.

Each 3 stitch by 4 round repeat for the pattern is .5” x .25”. This stitch pattern has a decreased amount of stretch due to the PSSO. Please, take this in account when swatching and consider blocking your swatch.

Socks are knit top down with heel flap and wider toe. Feel free to put in your favorite heel or toe instead. To me, heel flap and normal decrease toe seemed the least likely for me to mess up after being up for 26 hours.
