Here is a fabulous pattern to carry one from one sock to another. It has been nestled in my head for many years (was taught in Austria some 25 years ago) and is a traditional 4 needle sock patten. It is called a top down sock and is done using 4 needles the 4th one for knitting, the sock rests on 3 needles. Sock knitting is not the easiest of projects on a knitters list and has the remarkable ability to make it to one’s bucket list. It has a heel flap and a turned heel. The finish of the toe is up to the maker, one can either do a three needle cast off (bind off) described in the pattern or a Kitchener stitch cast/bind off.
Happy sock knitting.
